Our Story
Welcome to Apex Transgulf Manufacturing (APEX), a family-owned, family-run business at Salalah Free Zone in the Gulf of Oman. APEX was founded in January 2015 with a total project cost of $8mn. Under our two divisions, we specialize in the manufacture of Polyethylene Plastic Blow Film and Textile Sewing Threads.
We’re proud of the company we’ve built up over 30 years in the industry. The family have a combined 40 years of diversified business experience in Oman and the Gulf and MENA region. We have a highly experienced - and truly passionate - team of 120 employees. This combination of experience and expertise allows us to provide our clients with the products they need, at the right price, and fast; and with our small team of family members at the helm, we’re able to be agile and flexible, working with custom designs and quick thinking to meet every challenge our clients face.
Our vision is to cost effectively produce and sell high-quality, sustainable polyethylene packaging and textile sewing thread products. We aim to provide a safe and challenging work environment for our staff, maintain excellent customer service levels, and forge long-term relationships with our customers and vendors. We see our team, our clients, and our vendors as genuine partners, who are as integral to our success as our products are to theirs - Apex Transgulf Manufacturing started as a family business, and that’s still who we are today.
That's the APEX story - now meet our partners, Muhammad and Shayan.
Muhammad Naveed Sumar – Chairman & CEO
Naveed Sumar was born and brought up in a family of textile entrepreneurs from Pakistan. He has over 35 years of manufacturing experience, and has successfully launched seven business within the textiles and packaging industries, in Sultanate of Oman and Pakistan. Graduating with a degree in business from Karachi University, Naveed set up his first venture; a polyethylene packaging factory, catering to Pakistan’s growing industries. He later set up a paper cone factory, and a garment manufacturing facility in Karachi. Early on in his career, Naveed co-founded the Pakistan Paper Cone Manufacturers Association, and was an active member of the Pakistan Readymade Garments Manufacturers Association.
Moving to the Sultanate of Oman with his father in 1989, Naveed set up a fully-integrated garment manufacturing facility employing over 1,100 skilled personnel, exporting fashion garments to the USA. He later founded a public limited company producing sewing threads in Oman, for which he won industry accolades and recognition as a business leader.
Naveed was a two-term member of the Export Working Group set up by OCIPED (Ithraa), and in 2006, he joined the working group of the US-Oman Free Trade Agreement (FTA), in which he represented the industrial sector. This tenure led to the successful signing and implementation of the US–Oman Free Trade Agreement between the Governments of Oman and United States of America.
Along with his family, Naveed co-founded Apex Transgulf Manufacturing LLC (ATM) in Salalah Free Zone, Southern Oman, in 2015. ATM is a Federal Drug Agency (FDA) registered manufacturer of polyethylene packaging medical devices and food and beverage packaging materials, as well as textile sewing threads, which it exports to global markets.
Shayan Sumar – Managing Director
Shayan Sumar, is a Pakistan-born, Oman-bred entrepreneur who studied Business and Tourism Management at Oxford Brookes University, and London Metropolitan University, UK.
Shayan is the co-founder and Managing Director at Apex Transgulf Manufacturing LLC, and an elected Board Member at the Oman American Business Center (OABC), Oman’s largest and most active business group.
With a passion for commerce and trade, with a specific interest in the Free Trade Agreement between the US and Oman, Shayan has spoken at events organized by the US Embassy Muscat, the Oman Chamber of Commerce & Industry, as well as the OABC on matters affecting trade between both Oman and the US.
ATM has been studied as an Omani success story in pioneering Free Trade Agreement based relationship with US customers in the highly sophisticated medical industry.
